Junkyard Index is operated by whisp labs LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name
  • Profile picture (if you sign in with a social provider)
  • The date and version of the Terms of Service you accepted

Social Login (Discord)

If you choose to sign in with Discord, we receive the following information from your Discord account:

  • Your Discord user ID
  • Email address associated with your Discord account
  • Username and display name
  • Profile picture (avatar)

We do not gain access to your Discord servers, messages, or friends list. We cannot post to Discord on your behalf or perform any actions on your Discord account.

Usage Information

We automatically collect certain information when you use our service:

  • Search queries and saved searches
  • Alert settings and subscription status
  • ZIP code or device-derived approximate location when you use location features
  • IP address, request information, and approximate location
  • Device and browser information
  • Pages visited and actions taken
  • Error, performance, and sampled session-replay information

Contact Information

If you contact us, we collect your name, email address, message, and any other information you choose to include.

Yard Requests

If you submit a yard request, we collect the yard name you provide, plus an optional website address and follow-up email. We also process your IP address to rate-limit submissions and prevent abuse of this form. If you are signed in, the request is linked to your account and is deleted when you delete that account. We retain anonymous requests while they remain useful for evaluating and maintaining yard coverage; you may contact us to request deletion. A follow-up email is used only when you provide one.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain our service
  • Send email alerts when new vehicles match your saved searches
  • Calculate distances to salvage yards based on your location
  • Improve our service and user experience
  • Measure use, diagnose errors, and protect the Service
  • Manage subscriptions and record acceptance of our Terms
  • Respond to your inquiries and support requests
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate Junkyard Index:

  • Discord - Social login authentication (if you choose to sign in with Discord)
  • Polar - Payment processing and subscription management
  • Vercel - Website hosting and analytics
  • Turso - Database hosting
  • Upstash - Rate limiting
  • Algolia - Search indexing and search results
  • Resend - Email delivery for alerts and notifications
  • PostHog - Product analytics and usage measurement
  • Sentry - Error tracking and performance monitoring, including sampled session replay
  • Zippopotam.us - ZIP-code lookup when you save a ZIP-based location preference

Each of these services has their own privacy policy governing their use of your data.

Data Retention

We retain your account information and saved searches for as long as your account is active. When account deletion completes, we delete active application account data, including saved searches and alert settings. Polar and other providers may retain billing, transaction, security, support, backup, or legal-compliance records under their own policies or as required by law.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Delete your account and associated data
  • Unsubscribe from email alerts at any time

You can delete your account from Settings in the application. To unsubscribe from email alerts, click the unsubscribe link in any alert email or disable alerts for individual saved searches.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies, such as local storage, to maintain sessions and preferences, measure usage through Vercel Analytics and PostHog, and support Sentry error monitoring and sampled session replay. Your browser can limit these technologies, but doing so may prevent account or preference features from working correctly.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including HTTPS for data sent between your browser and the Service. No storage or transmission system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last updated” date.
